Koyoltzintli’s Spirit Vessels is a series that explores the cycles of life, death, and transformation through the elemental medium of clay. Composed of earth gathered from various places—each rich with memory and history—these vessels mirror the life cycle of a seed: from dormancy to growth, maturity, and eventual stillness, echoing the human journey. Clay, formed over centuries from decomposed organic matter, including bones and other remnants of life, becomes a literal embodiment of our ancestors. Water, the essential binder, serves not only as a physical agent but also as a spiritual offering—an act of remembrance and connection to those who came before. The vessel images are created using locally sourced clay applied to thick gampi paper, anchoring the work in both ritual and material presence. These Spirit Vessels invite viewers into a sacred dialogue with the material and metaphysical layers of existence.
