In the isolated mountains of provincia del Bolivar in Ecuador, lives
Maria Matilde Auxiliadora Cunalata, a seer, a cleanser of souls, a dancer
a clown, a Yachaj.
She belongs to the waranka lineage, a group that predates the Incas, and is
one of the remaining yachajs (healers) practicing what her elders practiced for
centuries while sharing it with those who are willing to walk with her.
MaMatilde, as she is known, lives between worlds; days and nights shift in
service to ceremonies for healing the body and mind, yet she flows through power
believing that all life is sacred and we must embrace everything that brings.
Piedra Redonda is not a documentary project it is an ode to my teacher,
to my grandmothers and all the healers that walk far and wide in this earth.
